Caine exists so that vampires can point and say, “yeah, that’s where we came from. The story is a good tradition story, and it shows where the vampires come from. So Vampire society became a sort of pyramid scheme, with the more powerful at the top and the less powerful but more numerous at the bottom. The further removed from Caine each vampire became, the more dilluted the curse, and the less potent their power. Vampires of lower generation were less and less powerful. In their place, various elders sprung up. When they eventually also spawned more vampires, the curse was further divided into the thirteen, who wold become the founders of the Clans, the equivalent of vampire families.įor reasons largely unknown, the various thirteen, called the Antediluvians, vanished, as did Caine and his progeny.
